and
packages
going
to
servicemen
overseas
to
avoid
serious delays
in
delivery.
Postmaster
Mattox
reported
that
millions
of
letters
and
packages
going
overseas have
been delayed
becase
they were
insufficiently
addressed
He
said
that
one of the
biggest problems
has been
the
failure
of
persons
to
include
the
very
important
5
digit
APO or FPO
number
in the
military
address.
Mail

taining
this number
is
incorrectly

improperly
addressed
mail
had
to be
sent
to
a
military
loca-
tor
directory
where
time-con-
suming
searches
were made
to
determine
the
proper
addresses.
"As
the
Christmas
mail
volume
going
overseas
is
expected
to in-
crease
up to 30
percent
or
over
4
million
pounds above last year,
every
precaution should
be
taken
by
friends
and
relatives
of
serv-
icemen
to
address
their
letters
and
packages
properly
to
assure
rapid
delivery
to its
destination,
Postmaster
Mattox
said.
There
are
rour essential ele-
ments
to an
overseas
military
address. They
are:
1.
The
serviceman's
identity
-
grade,
full
name,
and
service
number.
2. His
military
unit
»
complete.
3.
Gateway post
office
-
New
York,
San
Francisco,
or
Seattle.
4.
APO or FPO
- a 5
digit
number.
When
any of
these
elements
is
missing,
the
letter
or
package
will
be
delayed
in
delivery.

Twirling
Contest, Saturday,

Jr.
High
School
gymnasium
in
Elkhart.
Susan
won 3rd
place
and
a
trophy
in the
advanced
15
year
group,
out of

contestants.
The

Post Home.
Plans were discussed
for
future
projects
to be
carried
out
by
the
Post
and its
Auxiliary.
A
committee
was
appointed
to
handle
the
arrangements
for
a
Family
Christmas Party
to be
held
Saturday, December
9, at
6:00
p.m. for
members
and
their
families.
It
will
be
a
carry-in
dinner
with
a
$1.00
gift
exchange
for
adults
and
a
50c
gift
for
each
child.
